At about 12:30am on November 17 before going down to Liberty Square I decided to make a sign. With limited supplies and energy but enormous enthusiasm this is what I wrote…

I want to occupy a future where there is:
CULTURAL DIVERSITY & SPIRITUAL AND CREATIVE FREEDOM
Where I am free to be me and you are free to be you. Where we celebrate each other’s gifts and uniqueness. Where we each strive to be the best human being we can be.
RIGHTS EQUALITY
Where the dignity of every person is upheld equally. Where everyone has a voice and can participate in making and co-creating the agreements and decisions that shape our world.
ECONOMIC SOLIDARITY
Where we work together to ensure the needs of every human being is met in a way that is sustainable for ourselves, society and the planet.
WHERE CULTURAL LIFE, ECONOMICS AND POLITICS ARE UNTANGLED AND SEPARATED. WHERE THESE THREE SPHERES WORK TOGETHER FOR THE GOOD OF ALL.
WHERE THE BOTTOM LINE IS HEALTH (FOR ALL & THE PLANET)
What is the FUTURE you want to OCCUPY?

As we marched from Liberty Square to Wall Street to Union Square to Foley Square and then across the Brooklyn Bridge many people read the sign. Lots of people said ‘that sounds great but how do we do that?!’ I replied that many people, organisations and communities already are doing it, click here to learn more and to get inspiration from them.
